Point of Care Ultrasound Scanning.
Musculoskeletal scans use ultrasound imaging to produce images of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints throughout the body, to assist with a working diagnosis of a musculoskeletal condition/injury or pain.
The real-time imaging allows for a more detailed examination of the affected area, which is particularly useful for demonstrating causes of pain and muscle and tendon injuries, as well as being an accessible way to monitor these during treatment and the rehabilitation process
Point of care ultrasound scanning is not used in isolation to obtain an official diagnosis, therefore, if further investigation is required, our team will advise accordingly.
Treatment.
Point of Care Ultrasound Scanning is administered by a qualified chartered physiotherapist. A small, hand-held device (transducer) is pressed against the area being studied and is moved as needed to capture the images. The transducer sends sound waves into the body, collects the ones that bounce back and sends them to a computer, which produce pictures of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and joints throughout the body. The treatment is used to help diagnose sprains, strains, tears, trapped nerves and other musculoskeletal conditions.
